Every March, the United States celebrates Women’s History Month, a dedicated period for recognizing and honoring the contributions of women throughout history. During this time, we reflect on the often-overlooked achievements of women in all facets of life, including science, community, government, literature, art, sports and medicine.

The Start of Women’s History Month
In 1978, the school district of Sonoma, CA, initiated Women’s History Week, aiming to challenge stereotypes about women’s roles and abilities. The event coincided with International Women’s Day, held the week of March 8. As the movement gained traction, communities across the country started to embrace the celebration of Women’s History Month.
