VIDEO: White Customer Attacks Black McDonald’s Employee, She Fights Him Off

For the new year, somebody got a #WhileBlack lesson. A white male customer at McDonald’s in St. Petersburg, Fla., violently grabbed and pulled a Black female employee over the counter, and met her fist.

A video has gone viral with more than 1 million views and counting of this woman defending herself against a white man on Dec. 31 after 9 p.m., who felt entitled enough to attack her. It has spurred social media into action with calls for a lawsuit, and protection of her job.

The man has been identified, and
arrested. Daniel Willis Taylor, 40, of Clearwater, was arrested and charged with two counts of battery and has been ordered to stay away from the McDonald’s and the employee. He is on a $1,000 bond, remains at Pinellas County Jail and is provisional for extradition for possible other warrants.

In the video, the man said to the manager, after he assaulted the employee, “I want her a** fired right now.”

The Black woman, who practically boxed her way out of the altercation shouted, “No, you’re fixing to go to jail!”

She asked why the police weren’t being called.

He says, “I was just asking you a f***ing question, b***h.”

Activist, Tariq Nasheed, posted the questions we all want answers to:

The manager appears to initially replace the Black woman at the counter to take the man’s order after the attack, as opposed to asking him to leave. The police were eventually called.

Fair360, formerly DiversityInc reached out to St. Petersburg PD for comment, but has yet to receive a response.

Back in November, a white man was arrested for threatening Somali-American teens at a Minnesota McDonald’s with a gun, and police weren’t called right away initially.

McDonald’s, who clearly has had a long-time ad campaign featuring Black people in commercials patronizing and working in their restaurants, with hip-hop music as background, is following a trend reported by
Advertising Age of catering to Blacks to influence consumption on larger scales.

Earlier this year, the McDonald’s Chief Marketing Officer Neil Golden
echoed that idea saying their most popular campaigns over the last few decades were “remarkably insightful to African-American consumers, yet still have a high relevance for the general audience.”

Steve Easterbrook is the president and CEO of McDonald’s. Easterbrook leads a predominantly white
corporate executive leadership team with only one Black man. McDonald’s has never participated in the Fair360, formerly DiversityInc Top 50 Companies competition.

This is a developing story.
