Video: Demi Moore Reveals Her Mom Gave a Man Access To Rape Her for $500

Actress Demi Moore revealed a painful part of her past. In a candid interview with Good Morning America’s Diane Sawyer, she disclosed the painful moment her alcoholic mother allowed a man to rape her at age 15 for five hundred dollars. She also discussed the trauma of saving her mother from various suicide attempts starting when she was 12-years old.

Her mother struggled with personal demons. After she discovered that the man whom Moore knew to be her father was not, she spiraled even further out of control. Moore’s mother would drag the burgeoning teen to bars with her for attention. It was there the mother and daughter met the predator who would rape her.

Moore detailed the sexual assault. She described how the man came into her house with a set of keys to have his way with her. Moore recounted the man’s cruel comment while he violated her, stating he asked, “How does it feel to be whored by your mother for $500?”

Later in the interview, Sawyer asked if Moore believed that her mother sold her to the man.

Moore, looking pensive, replied, “I think in my deep heart no. I don’t think it was a straightforward transaction.  But she still did give him the access and put me in harm’s way.”

The veteran actress interviewed with Sawyer to talk about her newly-released memoir Inside Out.

Moore’s “childhood” was not carefree by any stretch of the imagination. She talked about her later struggles with alcohol and substance abuse as an adult. According to OK Magazine, the tormented actress almost overdosed in the presence of her daughter with actor and ex-husband Bruce Willis,  Rumer.

Surviving rape can be taxing on the victim’s mental health. Some studies indicate that survivors of sexual violence are 13 times more likely to become alcoholics and 26 times more likely to become drug addicts than those who have never been sexually abused.

In lieu of Moore’s continued struggle with drug abuse, she has been sober for 20 years.

Her bravery and willingness to share her pain should be applauded and supported. Demi Moore has lived and is reconciling trauma that is known to many other survivors who choose to remain silent.
