WASHINGTON, DC (August 27, 2013) – Today, the White House announced that the new regulations implementing Section 503 of the Rehabilitation Act and the Vietnam Era Veterans’ Readjustment Assistance Act (VEVRAA) are final. These final regulations will soon be published in the Federal Register and 180 days after their publication they become effective. The new 503 regulation established an aspirational 7% utilization goal and requirements for opportunities for self-identification, documentation of outreach and positive recruitment efforts, and data collection and analysis.

USBLN member companies embrace the White House goal of full workforce inclusion and real career opportunities for people with disabilities and wounded and injured warriors. Many member companies have developed effective policies and practices with measurable results and engage in business to business sharing of these policies and practices through USBLN webinars and presentations at the USBLN 16th Annual Conference.

In preparation for the anticipated release of the revised 503 regulations, the USBLN engaged the Nation’s Leading Disability Policy Expert, Robert “Bobby” Silverstein, to conduct the first of a five-part webinar series. During the first webinar, Mr. Silverstein will help employers decipher and understand what they need to do.

This first webinar will be followed by four additional webinars, with Mr. Silverstein moderating. Employers will learn from colleagues practical, business-based and business presented strategies to implement the key areas of the 503 regulations including Self-Identification, Setting Goals, Accommodations, Accessible Information & Communication Technology, Self-Evaluation, and Implementation of Ongoing Actions in Affirmative Action Plan Practices. Interested parties are invited to be on the lookout for the upcoming webinar series to open registration soon.

Federal contractors and all professionals who wish to be in the forefront of creating an inclusive employment and business environment for individuals from diverse communities while strengthening their talent pools with people with disabilities are encouraged to register now for the USBLN’s 16th Annual Conference & Expo entitled, “Lights, Camera, Access: Spotlight on Disability Inclusive Diversity” in Los Angeles, California on September 30-October 3. Multiple sessions will focus on employer-tested strategies for recruitment, career advancement, self-identification, and goal setting and measurements.

“The USBLN is a trusted advisor and the leading voice of business to business, government and the media regarding disability inclusion in the workplace, supply chain and marketplace. We invite you to learn from your peers about practical strategies to prepare for increased disability employment expectations for Federal Contractors by joining us for our upcoming webinar series and 16th annual conference,” shared Jill Houghton, Executive Director, USBLN.
