Our approach to diversity, equity and inclusion is key to a strong United culture and a key competitive advantage. Over the past decade, our focus has evolved from excellence in employee engagement and talent programs to a strategic approach that embeds DEI throughout our business and goes even further to impact the communities where we work, live and fly.

We are proud of some recent accomplishments and industry firsts, including the first Hispanic CEO of a major U.S. airline; first female chairperson of a major U.S. airline; first Black president of a major U.S. airline; and first airline to offer nonbinary booking options. 

We are also the only major U.S. airline to own a flight school, and recently announced our goal of training 5,000 new pilots by 2030 with at least 50% women or people of color.
