Trump Again Urges Racial Profiling By Police

Still convinced that terrorists equate to Muslims, Trump once again called for racial profiling of immigrants “from that part of the world” after a series of attacks this weekend in New York, New Jersey and Minnesota.

On television interviews and campaign rallies yesterday, Trump said police are afraid to racially profile and are hampered by having to be “politically correct.”

“If somebody looks like he’s got a massive bomb on his back, we won’t go up to that person,” he said on Fox and Friends Monday. “Because if he looks like he comes from that part of the world, we’re not allowed to profile. Give me a break.”

Later in the day, Trump told Fox News’ Bill O’Reilly, “We’re going to have to start profiling. And it’s, you know, I don’t know if it’s that bad. But certainly it’s not a wonderful thing. Our local police they know who a lot of these people are. They are afraid to do anything about it because they don’t want to be accused of profiling.”

This is not the first time Trump has called for profiling of Muslims. Following the nightclub massacre in Orlando in June by U.S.-born Muslim Omar Mateen, who killed 49 people, Trump said racial profiling was “something that we’re going to have to start thinking about as a country.”

During a campaign rally in Florida Monday, Trump expanded the call for profiling by suggesting immigration in general be curtailed in the interest of security.

“We can’t let any more people come into this country,” he said, followed by a statement from his campaign again calling for the “extreme vetting” of Syrian refugees.

The most recent terrorist who planted the bombs in New York and New Jersey, Ahmad Khan Rahami, was a naturalized U.S. citizen, originally from Afghanistan.

“We’re allowing these people to come into our country and destroy our country and make it unsafe for people,” Trump said on Fox and Friends, insisting Israel has been effective in limiting immigration and conducting racial profiling.

“Israel has done an unbelievable job and they will profile,” he said. “They profile. They see somebody that’s suspicious. They will profile. They will take that person in and check [them] out. Do we have a choice Look what’s going on. Do we really have a choice We’re trying to be so politically correct in our country and this is only going to get worse.”

Hillary Clinton blasted Trump for his rhetoric, saying he was using the attacks to make “some kind of demagogic point.”

“We know that a lot of the rhetoric that we’ve heard from Donald Trump has been seized on by terrorists, including ISIS, because they are looking to make this a war against Islam,” Clinton said. “Let us be vigilant but not afraid. We’re going after the bad guys and we’re going to get them, but we’re not going to go after an entire religion.”

During a “commander in chief” forum in New York earlier this month, Clinton said the issue of radicalization must be tackled online, where much of the propaganda and remote recruiting of disenchanted young people takes place.

“We also have to do a better job combating ISIS online, where they recruit, where they radicalize,” she said. “And I don’t think we’re doing as much as we can. We need to work with Silicon Valley. We need to work with our experts in our government. We have got to disrupt, we have got to take them on in the arena of ideas that, unfortunately, pollute and capture the minds of vulnerable people. So we need to wage this war against ISIS from the air, on the ground, and online, in cyberspace.”
