The bank, which moved up six spots in its third year on the list, continues to improve its talent-development initiatives, including formalizing mentoring and emphasizing leadership and development programs for people from under-represented groups. TD’s numbers, especially for women, demonstrate its progress. The bank has eight percent more senior women (top 3 levels) and more women in management than the national average (when compared with Equal Employment Opportunity Commission data).
In 2015 that progress continues as all managers, including executives, are responsible for identifying, hiring and promoting diverse talent.
The bank has also emphasized the growth of its five employee-resource groups, which last year saw their number of chapters jump by 14 percent.
Under the leadership of President and CEO Mike Pedersen and Executive Vice President Linda Verba, TD has created an enterprise-wide three-year Diversity and Inclusion strategy that has five areas of focus: Accountability, Talent, Inclusive Leadership, Winning in the Marketplace and Governance. A scorecard showing D&I results is now presented to Pedersen and the leadership team.
TD Bank also has improved its supplier-diversity efforts to include a Diverse Supplier Mentorship Program with TD-hosted and sponsored education workshops and the formal start of Tier II (subcontractor) reporting.
