Ernst & Young LLP (EY US) announced that Steve Payne has been named Deputy Managing Principal of EY Americas, effective Nov. 1, 2021. His responsibilities cover operations and strategic projects across the US and Americas geographic area, which represents more than US$21.2b in combined revenues and 81,000 people in member firms in 31 countries.

“A strategic thinker and seasoned leader, Steve is committed to bringing the full power of the EY organization to clients through technology and innovation and is passionate about cultivating talent and building high-performing teams that can respond to change and transformation with the agility and resilience needed in today’s world,” said Kelly Grier, EY US Chair and Managing Partner and Americas Managing Partner. “I couldn’t be more excited for all that Steve brings to this role in service to our people, clients and communities.”

Payne has held several leadership positions within EY, most recently as EY Americas Vice Chair – Consulting, and previously as Global Leader for the EY-Parthenon strategy and operations consultancy, as well as EY Americas Deputy Leader for Strategy & Transactions. He has advised top-tier institutions on operations management and working capital improvement for more than 30 years, drawing on extensive international experience in Europe and emerging markets in the Americas and Asia-Pacific.

“This new role provides an immense opportunity for me to work alongside our Americas leadership team to help people and businesses achieve their full potential through transformation, collaboration and empathy. When we bring these elements together, we deliver innovative solutions to help solve our clients’ toughest challenges,” said Payne. “I am passionate about helping our people build successful careers by providing them with the proper support, opportunities and resources they need to realize their ambitions.”

He succeeds Anthony Caterino, who was appointed EY Global Deputy Managing Partner – Business Enablement, effective Dec. 1, 2021. In his new role, Caterino works closely with Steve Krouskos, EY Global Managing Partner – Business Enablement, in driving the continued transformation of EY infrastructure and operations. He served as the EY Americas Area Deputy Managing Partner since 2020 and is the Executive Sponsor of the EY Veterans Network. Caterino also held the position of EY Americas Financial Services Organization (FSO) Regional Managing Partner from 2015 to 2020, among other leadership roles over the course of his 30-year career at EY.
