A report by the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) analyzed more than 900 emails leaked from Stephen Miller that he sent to the far-right website Breitbart. The emails reveal that Miller, a White House senior adviser for President Donald Trump, used white supremacist propaganda and literature to shape Breitbart’s articles.
Most of the emails were sent over a 15-month period between 2015 and 2016, as Trump was ramping up his campaign and racist immigration rhetoric, The Washington Post reported. Miller was emailing Katie McHugh, a former Breitbart writer and editor, according to the report.
McHugh confirmed to the Post that she was the person emailing Miller.
The emails from Miller reportedly show him directing the then-Breitbart employee to put together stories from American Renaissance, a journal for white supremacists, as well as pushing “The Camp of the Saints,” a racist novel popular among white nationalists, according to the SPLC report.

“What Stephen Miller sent to me in those emails has become policy at the Trump administration,” McHugh told the SPLC.
The emails and the report from SPLC show that Miller had an impact on the reporting that appeared on Breitbart, which is widely read by Trump supporters and other people on the far right.
“A lot of profiles in the liberal press have treated him like some sort of policy wonk bad boy — almost romanticized him,” SPLC investigative reporter Michael Edison Hayden, who wrote the report told the Post. “The most important takeaway for me is that Stephen Miller found the basis for his ideas on websites that traffic in hate, and made it clear in his emails.”
Miller declined to comment to the Post, but he has previously said that he is not racist and anyone who calls him a racist is “an ignorant fool, a liar and a reprobate who has no place in civilized society.”
Since the report was published, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, among other members of Congress, has called for Miller to resign.
“Stephen Miller, Trump’s architect of mass human rights abuses at the border (including child separation & detention camps w/ child fatalities) has been exposed as a bonafide white nationalist,” Ocasio-Cortez wrote in a tweet Tuesday. “He’s still at the White House shaping US immigration policy. Miller must resign. Now.”
