“Sopranos” Actress Annabella Sciorra Might Testify Against Harvey Weinstein

“Sopranos” actress Annabella Sciorra might testify against Harvey Weinstein in his sex-crimes trial as a key witness on Monday during a last-minute court hearing, according to CNN. Sciorra’s testimony will be able to support the charges of predatory sexual assault against Weinstein. Sciorra said that Weinstein sexually assaulted her inside her Gramercy Park apartment in 1993.

During the court hearing, Weinstein will appear before the judge overseeing his trial to be arraigned on an indictment, the Manhattan District Attorney’s office said in a statement.

What the indictment includes exactly is not yet known although he is already facing two counts of predatory sexual assault, one count of criminal sexual act in the first degree, one count of first-degree rape and one count of third-degree rape. The counts of sexual assault are from accounts by two women.

Weinstein is scheduled to stand trial in September. He has pleaded not guilty to all charges and maintains that the encounters with his accusers were consensual.

The only reason that Sciorra can’t add her encounter with Weinstein to his charges is because his defense team said that it effectively charged him with a new crime that was never presented to the grand jury.

In order to circumvent that and allow Sciorra to testify, Manhattan prosecutors convened another grand jury this month resulting in the latest indictment, which will be unsealed Monday.

Weinstein has had a very public fall from grace as a wealthy and successful film producer. In October 2017, The New York Times and The New Yorker reported that dozens of women accused Weinstein of sexual harassment and rape over a period of at least thirty years, maybe more.

Over eighty women in the film industry have since accused Weinstein of such acts, sparking the #MeToo movement.
