R. Kelly Blames His Learning Disability for Losing Sexual Misconduct Case

R. Kelly blamed a “learning disability” for preventing him from reading court documents in his alleged sexual misconduct case.

Heather Williams accused the R&B singer of repeated sexual abuse when she was 16-years-old. The age of consent is 17 in the state of Illinois.

She filed a civil suit against Kelly in a Chicago court. Last week, Williams won by default judgment when R. Kelly failed to appear at the hearing. She is also one of four accusers in a separate criminal case. He has pleaded not guilty and continued to maintain his innocence. The judgment has yet to be determined by the judge who ruled in the case.

In a shocking twist, Zaid Abdallah and Raed Shalabi, R. Kelly’s attorneys, have claimed that he had no idea what documents he was served while he was incarcerated for failing to pay child support.

Their defense is because the singer has a learning disability he couldn’t take the appropriate steps to defend himself. However, he does not have a learning disability. He is a functional illiterate.

In fact, Kelly has openly spoken about not being able to read but he has not attributed it to having a mental deficit. He made light about it in an interview saying that his “jump shot was what got him through school.”

It’s an insult. And tying sexual misconduct and the alleged abuse of women and girls to a “learning disability” is a slap in the face to people who have them. The problem is R. Kelly didn’t have family or educators who took the time to teach him and after so long — he just didn’t care because he didn’t have to know how to read.

This is a perfect example of people shielding and protecting predators. And Kelly is that as well as a master manipulator. For decades, the singer has had handlers for everything including his alleged sexual misconduct.

His time is up. And now it looks like the “Pied Piper of R&B” has to pay.
