Novartis announced that it has been included in the 2022 Bloomberg Gender-Equality Index (GEI) for its commitment to gender equity and inclusion. The company was also included on the list in 2021.

Bloomberg’s GEI looks at the performance of public companies that disclose their efforts to “support gender equality through policy development, representation, and transparency,” according to Bloomberg.

Novartis said it continues to challenge itself and “others to strive for change through our public pledge with the Equal Pay International Coalition to:

  • monitor pay equity with global consistency;
  • remove bias from the system through the elimination of historical pay data;
  • create pay transparency; and
  • achieve gender balance in management by 2023.”

Pay equity is a principle of Novartis’ employment policies and is reflected in its Code of Ethics. The company’s commitment to pay equity and transparency led it to join the Equal Pay International Coalition in 2018.

In terms of achieving gender balance in management by 2023, Novartis said it has more work to do but is making progress.

“Women currently make up 50% of our overall workforce, with 45% women in management and 25% women on our Board of Directors,” the company said.
