Novant Health: No. 3 in The DiversityInc Top10 Hospitals and Health Systems

WHY IT’S ON THE LIST


Novant Health, a system of 13 hospitals, 100 outpatient facilities and 350 physician practices in North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia and Georgia, has notable physician demographics. More than 12 percent of physicians are Blackthat’s more than twice the national share of the physician workforce.

Diversity initiatives are driven from the top, through the Executive Diversity Council chaired by President and CEO Carl S. Armato, and a System Diversity Council chaired by Vice President and Chief Diversity Officer Dr. Deborah Ashton. Armato meets regularly with the seven business resource groups, which focus on community involvement, human resources and marketing. The groups are involved in addressing health disparities, as well as the hospital system’s concentration on population health, which focuses on community wellness as well as illness, to promote better patient outcomes.

Novant Health spends over $4 million on community agencies and programs, including the Maya Angelou Center for Women’s Health and Wellness at Novant Health’s Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem, N.C. The Center’s goal is to educate, inform and empower women to make smart health choices for themselves and their families.
