Lehigh U. Being Investigated for 'Racially Hostile Environment'

The U.S. Department of Education is moving forward with an investigation into a civil-rights complaint against Lehigh University in Pennsylvania. The complainant, a 1977 graduate, alleges that the school “permitted a racially hostile environment to exist on its campus by failing to provide appropriate responses to incidents of harassment based on race and color, of which the university had notice.”

Specifically, Susan Magaziner claims that the school did not report as a hate crime vandalism of UMOJA House, the school’s multicultural dormitory. In early November, the house was egged and racist graffiti was spray painted in multiple locations on and near the building.
