'Must Be Mexican': Burger King Fires Employee for Racist Help-Wanted Sign

Burger King executives are in damage-control mode after a picture of a racist help-wanted sign that was put up over the summer surfaced on the Internet.

The job posting, which appeared on the marquee of a store in the central Washington town of Ephrata, read, “NOW HIRING MUST BE MEXICAN.” In a statement on Wednesday, months after the sign was put up and quickly taken down, Burger King officials said, “We have been informed by the franchisee that immediate actions were taken to terminate the employee responsible. [Burger King] has a long history of dedication to diversity and inclusion. Diversity is a driving force behind both our innovation and an inclusive environment for our people—employees, franchisees, suppliers and restaurant guests alike.”
