The More Moments More Memories Foundation, which launched on March 20, 2017, helps ease financial burdens for individuals with cancer as they travel to clinical trials.
The foundation is hosted by the Community Foundation of Greater Dubuque and was founded by Northeast Iowa natives, sisters Christi and Shelley Shaw, in honor of their mother and sister. Christi and Shelley understand personally and professionally the needs of cancer patients and the sad reality that those with financial means are more able to access quality solutions.
The Shaw sisters’ mother, Karen, died of breast cancer in 1996. At the time, the sisters were told there was nothing more anyone could do to save their mom’s life. She suffered through chemotherapy, radiation, and fought to stay alive. What the sisters did not know was that there were clinical trials available at the time in other parts of the country.
