Military Relaxes Hairstyle Restrictions

After uproar over the military’s new grooming policies, Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel announced that the guidelines have been relaxed and that offensive language has been removed from the policies of two branches of the military.

In a letter to U.S. Representative Marcia Fudge (D.Ohio), chair of the Congressional Black Caucus, Hagel wrote that after a three-month review, the Army, Navy and Air Force have added additional “authorized hairstyles” to their policies, while the Marine Corps will convene a special uniform board later this summer to consider doing the same.
