Michelle Obama Says Life in America Under Trump is Like ‘Living With Divorced Dad’

While promoting her autobiography, “Becoming,” on Sunday in London, former first lady Michelle Obama said that having Donald Trump as a president is like living with your “divorced dad.”

Obama, who was interviewed by late-night host Stephen Colbert at the O2 Arena., compared the U.S. to a broken family.

“We come from a broken family, we are a little unsettled,” she said, according to The Independent. “Sometimes you spend the weekend with divorced dad. That feels like fun but then you get sick. That is what America is going through. We are living with divorced dad.”

She also took a dig at the Trump administration:

“For anyone who had any problems with Barack Obama, let’s just think about what we were troubled by – there were never any indictments.”

Obama is seemingly referring to Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into potential collusion between Trump or his campaign and Russia.

The former first lady also said that it feels like we’re in a dark chapter, but we will survive.

“This may feel like a dark chapter but any story has its highs and lows but it continues. Yes, we are in a low but we have been lower. We have had tougher times, we have had more to fear. We have lived through slavery, the Holocaust and segregation.”

She continued, “We have always come out at the other end – better and stronger. We are moving in the direction of diversity and inclusion. No one ever said it would be easy. We are just in the throes of the uneasy path of change.”

In her memoir, which has sold more than 10 million copies and is on track to become the most popular memoir in history, Obama said she would never forgive Trump for putting her family in danger.

She said he “put her family’s safety at risk with his vehement promotion of the false birther conspiracy theory.”

“The whole [birther] thing was crazy and mean-spirited, of course, its underlying bigotry and xenophobia hardly concealed,” she writes. “But it was also dangerous, deliberately meant to stir up the wingnuts and kooks.”

“What if someone with an unstable mind loaded a gun and drove to Washington. What if that person went looking for our girls Donald Trump, with his loud and reckless innuendos, was putting my family’s safety at risk. And for this I’d never forgive him.”

In the video below from Sunday’s talk, Michelle Obama discusses how the Obama family adjusted to the White House, meeting the Queen and staying calm in times of turmoil:
