Marriott International, Inc. moves up one spot this year and has been a mainstay on the Top 50 list every year since 2003. Marriott's philosophy, "Take care of associates, they will take care of the customers, and the customers will return," has allowed its diverse employees to excel and grow within their careers.
The company has expanded TakeCare, its global initiative focused on doing just that: taking care of its associates. The effort is dedicated to associates' physical, emotional, career and financial wellbeing, while also promoting a unity through a family-like environment and ensuring Marriott plays a positive role in its communities.
CEO Arne Sorenson heads Marriott's Global Diversity and Inclusion Council, which is comprised of all continent presidents as well as other company leaders who also sit on the Committee for Excellence. The council's purpose is to advance Marriott's progress around the world and ensure the integration of the company's diversity and inclusion focus across all aspects of its global business strategy.
Marriott has also seen continued success with its Emerging Leader Program, an initiative that increases the number of women and minorities in leadership roles. The company reported that, by the end of 2016, the majority of the program's participants have already been promoted or taken on strategic development roles.
