Louisiana Police Officers Fired for Threatening AOC, But Chief Refuses to Call Comment a Real ‘Threat’

A small bit of justice was doled out on Monday when two Louisiana police officers from Gretna, Louisiana were fired after one of them wrote a violent Facebook post threatening Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and another officer “liked” the post.

Now, former officer, Charlie Rispoli wrote on Facebook: “This vile idiot needs a round……..and I don’t mean the kind she used to serve,” referring to a gunshot and the lawmaker’s earlier career as a bartender.

The comment, which was left on a post sharing a satirical article titled “Ocasio-Cortez on the Budget: ‘We Pay Soldiers Too Much.’ ” has since been deleted, but not before now-former officer Angelo Varisco “liked” Rispoli’s comment.

Nola.com originally reported the Facebook post and acquired an image before it was deleted.

Both Louisiana police officers were fired after the news of the post went viral.

“This incident, we feel, has been an embarrassment to our department,” Gretna Police Chief Arthur Lawson said at a news conference. “These officers have certainly acted in a manner which was unprofessional, alluding to a violent act be conducted against a sitting U.S. [congresswoman], a member of our government [and] we are not going to tolerate that.”

Ocasio-Cortez responded to the incident on Twitter and mostly blamed President Donald Trump:

However, Lawson stopped short of calling the Facebook post a threat, and instead said it was “disturbing.”

These officers are just two that have been fired in recent weeks as law enforcement agencies across the country reckon with investigations that found thousands of so-called “public servants” posting violent, sexist, racist and xenophobic comments all over social media platforms and Facebook groups.
