KPMG Survey Shows More Women and Underrepresented Groups Are Joining the Tax Profession

KPMG ranked No. 11 on The DiversityInc Top 50 Companies for Diversity list in 2022.

 

KPMG’s Tax Reimagined 2022: Perspectives from the C-suite survey shows that more women and underrepresented groups are joining the tax and accounting profession, according to executives at large companies.

KPMG’s report, which surveyed 300 C-suite executives, shows that 83% of C-suite respondents have seen an uptick in the number of female hires and candidates in the profession, and 72% of respondents said the same about underrepresented groups.

Several companies are struggling to recruit and retain talent — 83% of respondents say that recruiting talent in the tax and accounting profession has been difficult, and 79% say retaining talent has been just as hard. However, C-suite executives have seen an increase in diverse talent pursuing tax careers in the last year.

The demographics of the tax and accounting profession have shifted. And according to KPMG’s survey, the C-suite is setting goals to encourage this shift. Fifty-four percent of survey respondents have started outreach initiatives to Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC) and other underrepresented groups.

“Tax departments are stepping out of the past by modernizing the skill sets of their talent, embracing DEI and upgrading the technology they use to plan for the future,” said Rema Serafi, National Managing Partner – Tax at KPMG. “Those organizations that embrace this change will be the ones best positioned to compete and succeed.”
