Kellyanne Conway Asks Reporter Questioning Her About Trump’s Comments: ‘What’s Your Ethnicity?’

White House reporter Andrew Feinberg asked White House counselor Kellyanne Conway on Tuesday about the president’s racist tweets against the four congresswomen. Conway did her best to wriggle her way out of the question – in a bizarre way.

Feinberg asked Conway which countries President Donald Trump was referring to when he suggested Ayanna Pressley, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar—all U.S. citizens—should “go back” to where they came from.

Earlier in the press conference, Conway had tried to defend the president, saying that the media was misconstruing his words and putting a racial meaning on them. When Feinberg asked Conway, “if the president was not telling these four congresswomen to return to their supposed countries of origin, to which countries was he referring?” Conway replied… sort of.

“What’s your ethnicity?” Conway said back.

Awkward silence.

“Uh… why is that relevant?” Feinberg asked, who is Jewish.

Conway then oddly shares her ethnicity (her ancestors are from Ireland and Italy) and says Feinberg should answer because she asked him a question. Feinberg did not buy into it.

“My ethnicity is not relevant to the question I’m asking you,” Feinberg said, and continued to press her for an actual answer.

Conway then went on to use “alternative facts” and continue with a random slew of racist comments. She said that her question made sense because Trump said “originally” from — he didn’t, that is a bald lie — and going on a rant about how “a lot of us are sick and tired in this country of America coming last,” and that the four women of color who make up the “Squad” represent a “dark underbelly in this country.”

“It’s not the first time she’s responded to one of my questions with an irrelevant question, but this time was particularly bizarre,” Feinberg told the Daily Beast. “I just wanted to get back to what I was asking her about, so I was glad she was able to confirm the president’s thinking on the matter.”

This all started when Trump tweeted on Sunday that four Democrats, Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, Ayanna Pressley, and Rashida Tlaib should “go back and help fix the totally broken and crime-infested places from which they came.”
