Juanita Harris, Assistant Vice President on the Senior Legal Counsel of AT&T, Receives Outstanding Corporate Counsel Award

Juanita Harris, Assistant Vice President on the Senior Legal Counsel of AT&T (no. 1 on 2019 Fair360, formerly DiversityInc Top 50 Companies list) just received the National Bar Association Women Lawyers Division’s Outstanding Corporate Counsel award. AT&T will ascend to Fair360, formerly DiversityInc’s Top 50 Hall of Fame (HoF).

The Women Lawyers Division of the National Bar Association began in 1972 as a catalyst for women in law to address issues particularly relevant to Black women in the U.S.

Harris’ experience at AT&T, a Fortune 100 company, includes mitigating risks associated with and increasing the return on investment in human capital and commercial transactions. In her current position, she provides counsel to Human Resources clients regarding issues of talent development, diversity and inclusion and Title VII, among other topics.

This award is not the first of its kind Harris has been honored. In 2017, she received the DFW’s Chapter of the Association of Corporate Counsel and the Texas Lawbook’s Outstanding Corporate Counsel of the Year for Diversity Award.

As part of her over 20-year career as corporate attorney, Harris has represented AT&T before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, National Labor Relations Board and Department of Labor. She is also active in AT&T’s legal department’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee. She has collaborated with AT&T attorneys to support its commitment to upholding diversity in the legal pipeline. Under her leadership, AT&T attorneys have mentored disadvantaged high school students across the country. The success of the program led to it also being established in Mexico.

AT&T appeared no. 13 on Fair360, formerly DiversityInc’s Top Companies for Executive Women, as well as no. 1 on Fair360, formerly DiversityInc’s Best Companies for Mentorship specialty lists. AT&T was also a sponsor of Fair360, formerly DiversityInc’s inaugural Women of Color and their Allies event in 2018. Fair360, formerly DiversityInc CEO Carolynn Johnson had a “fireside chat” interview with Randall Stevenson, AT&T Chairman and CEO at last May’s Fair360, formerly DiversityInc Top 50 event.

In 2018, The Texas Lawbook called her a “force of nature” for diversity. This year, she spoke at the University of Texas at Austin School of Law’s Center for Women in Law 2019 Women’s Power Summit.

“I am humbled and grateful to have been honored my esteemed colleagues in the bar,” Harris posted, sharing her achievement on LinkedIn. “It is truly an honor to receive the National Bar Association’s Outstanding In-House Counsel Award. I am because of those who invest in, sponsor, advocate, support and encourage me. A heartfelt ‘Thanks ‘ to each of you.”
