Joe Biden’s Comments About Segregationists Cause Controversy

The Democratic presidential front runner Joe Biden told a group of white one percenters that he misses the old days … you know … when the Democratic Party was run by segregationists such as Herman Talmadge and James Eastland.

Biden’s point — even though he had disagreements with his colleagues during that time, they still managed to come together and be productive.

“We got things done. We didn’t agree on much of anything. We got things done. We got it finished. But today, you look at the other side you’re the enemy. Not the opposition, the enemy. We don’t talk to each other anymore.”

Unfortunately, his message of the need for both parties to put their differences aside and come together was overshadowed by his fawning over two of the most racist senators in American history.

This is not the first time Biden has publicly expressed his admiration for a segregationist. He gave the eulogy for Strom Thurmond at his 2003 funeral. He even mentioned his friendship with John Stennis in his 2007 memoirs.

“You’d get up and you’d argue like the devil with them… then you’d go down and have lunch or dinner together. The political system worked. We were divided on issues, but the political system worked.”

His rivals took no time to pounce on the man they are all trying to catch.

New Jersey Senator Cory Booker put out a statement slamming Joe Biden:

“Vice President Biden’s relationships with proud segregationists are not the model for how we make America a safer and more inclusive place for Black people, and for everyone. I have to tell Vice President Biden, as someone I respect, that he is wrong for using his relationships with Eastland and Talmadge as examples of how to bring our country together.”

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio tweeted a picture of his biracial family He pointed out that Eastland wouldn’t approve of his family.
