Jamario Howard Invited Elderly Widow to Dine With Him and Friends in Alabama Restaurant

A random act of kindness brought a little bit of joy to a newly-widowed elderly woman. Jamario Howard, Tae Knight and JaMychol Baker were eating supper at Brad’s Bar-B-Que in Oxford, Alabama. As they were eating, he noticed an elderly woman sitting alone at another table. Race relations in Alabama have always been strained but this story is a testimony to the power of the human spirit.

On April 18, Jamario Howard decided to extend care and concern to the woman and asked if he could sit with her.

“My exact thoughts were, ‘Dang, I’d hate to have to eat alone,'” Howard wrote on Facebook. “So, after thinking about it a minute I walked over to her and asked if I could sit with her.”

It was in that moment he learned her name was “Eleanor” and she had recently lost her husband. The next day would have been their 60th anniversary. Jamario Howard decided to ask Eleanor to join him and his two friends, JaMychol Baker and Tae Knight, for dinner. The widow happily accepted the invitation.

“I instantly gave my condolences and asked her to come eat with us,” he said. “She was excited to do so.”

The men discovered that Eleanor, though she was a widow, had lived a full life with loved ones and grandchildren and they reminisced about the activities she and her husband did together. She proudly told them about her volunteer work at a local hospital.

Jamario Howard shared the incident along with a picture on his Facebook. He added a heartfelt caption.

“The point in this is always be kind and be nice to people. You never know what they are going through. This woman changed my outlook on life and how I look at other people. Everyone has a story so do not judge! And people I can’t stress this enough.” he wrote.

He, then encouraged folks to get out and see their grandparents.

The real story here is if we all just did even the smallest act of kindness- this world would become a much better place.
