In Direct Disrespect of Pulse Massacre Anniversary, Orlando Baptist Church Is Hosting a ‘Make America Straight Again’ Conference

Forty-nine people were killed when a man opened fire with an assault-style rifle in Pulse, an Orlando gay nightclub on June 12, 2016. Another 53 were injured. At the time, it was the deadliest mass shooting by a single person in modern U.S. history.

Forty-nine innocent people, doing nothing except for dancing, spending time with friends, enjoying music.

In response to the recent anniversary of the mass murder, a group of unhinged anti-LGBTQ preachers, some of whom have been banned from multiple countries because of their violent views, will be hosted a “Make America Straight Again” conference this weekend in Florida.

The preachers are associated with the New Independent Fundamentalist Baptist Church and the Revival Baptist Church in Orlando. The conference is meant to dishonor those who died at Pulse.

According to a promotional video put together by pastor Patrick Boyle of the Revival Baptist Church in Orlando, the three-day conference goal was to expose the “reprobates.”

One of the worst of them is speaker Steven Anderson, who has been banned from dozens of countries because of his extreme anti-LGBTQ hate speech.

He praised the Pulse nightclub shooter for killing “a bunch of disgusting perverts and pedophiles” and “disgusting homosexuals who the Bible says were worthy of death.”

In spite of the hate and bigotry, Florida officials and residents want the sight of the Pulse nightclub to become a memorial. Last week, members of central Florida’s congressional delegation said they were introducing legislation that would designate it as a national memorial.
