IBM describes itself as “a company united by its values and the strength of character of every person that is an IBMer.”

One way the company portrays this belief is through its diversity councils. These groups, which are headed by senior-level executives, meet monthly, and the company directly ties executive compensation to goals set by the diversity council.

The company also has 148 chapters of employee resource groups (ERGs) spread across 45 countries serving various groups, including women, people with disabilities, LGBTs, veterans, Asians and Blacks.

In addition, IBM also has educational programs aimed at helping women succeed in the company. One such program, Building Relationship and Influence (BRI), is an award-winning program that has graduated more than 3,000 women. Designed for senior level women, this nomination-based program helps women build business relationships as well as professional leadership skills.
