Humana Honored Among Louisville Business First’s Partners in Philanthropy

Louisville Business First
’s Partners in Philanthropy recognized the Humana foundation on its list of Louisville-area companies who made generous cash donations last year. Humana is no. 42 on Fair360, formerly DiversityInc’s 2019 Top 50 Companies for Diversity list.

It also ranks no. 7 on the Top Companies for Philanthropy specialty list.

The site honored 63 companies across three categories: small, medium and large, based on their annual revenues. The Humana Foundation/Humana Inc. landed first in the large company category, donating the most out of the 11 companies recognized. Humana made $14.5 million in cash donations in 2018. It employs 12,000 people locally and is the area’s largest company by revenue.

Louisville Business First notes Humana’s primary donation recipients were the Interfaith Health Clinic, a small Louisville organization that provides people without medical insurance affordable health care; Older Adults Technology Services, a New York-based organization that works to teach senior citizens how to use technology to better connect with their communities and manage their health; and the San Antonio Food Bank, an organization that works to feed people across 16 surrounding counties.

Humana Foundation CEO Walter Woods told Louisville Business First that the foundation uses detailed methods such as performance dashboards and impact reports to track its donations.

The Humana Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Humana, Inc., focuses on improving health and well-being in and outside of the Louisville area. It also has a program called Giving Together, for which it doubles employees’ donations between $25 and $100 when they register a matching gift request, and triples them when they donate to an active Humana Foundation grant Recipient or Bold Goal Health Advisory Board Member.

The companies were honored at an awards luncheon Sept. 5 at the Galt House Hotel in Louisville.
