Humana, Happify Health Team Up to Provide Digital Behavioral Health Services

Humana Inc., one of the country’s leading health and well-being companies, and Happify Health, the pioneering provider of evidence-based emotional health software solutions, announced today a partnership to deliver emotional health support to chronic heart condition patients through a digital intervention delivery platform. The partnership will explore how to best help Humana members reduce depression and anxiety through better integrated, digitally-delivered behavioral health solutions.


Delivered on Happify Health’s digital intervention platform, the program supports heart patients who are prone to high comorbidity rates of depression and the potential for their health conditions to worsen if their depression goes unmanaged. By partnering with Happify Health, Humana launches a program that is uniquely designed to address the emotional support needs of chronic heart patients. The platform was developed in collaboration between Humana and Happify Health to test the delivery of effective mental health support for Medicare patients with chronic conditions through behavioral health initiatives as an integrated part of their overall care. Through the program, Humana will aim to improve quality outcomes by supplying a method of care that allows for access, scale and convenience.

“Multiple studies found that treating heart condition patients with behavioral health solutions can improve the member’s ability to adhere to their treatment plan, improve quality of life, and support health recovery,” said Humana Behavioral Health’s Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Larry Weinstein. “To date, the challenge has been finding a scalable, engaging solution to provide services. Happify Health’s software allows us to provide a wide range of our patients with unique, effective preventative care that was previously unavailable.”

“The challenges of providing behavioral health solutions have been access and engagement. Many patients do not have opportunities for care, whether due to location, time or privacy,” said Happify President and Co-Founder Ofer Leidner. “Similarly, previous programs have not created an environment which encourages patients to actively engage in their own care. We believe the Humana program solves for both issues for a highly susceptible population.”

Humana’s program will be integrated into Humana care management, which will use Happify Health tools to screen chronic heart condition patients. The patients who qualify who have signs of depression will then be enrolled into the program.

“Using technology to achieve scale is one of the most effective ways to achieve integrated care that improves outcomes and reduces costs,” said Dr. Andrew Sekel, a long time behavioral health executive and Happify Health chairman. “I’m excited about this initiative with Humana because it has a chance to be a real breakthrough in the treatment of heart patients.”
