House Speaker Nancy Pelosi Requests More Security for Rep. Ilhan Omar After Trump’s Tweet

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has taken extra measures to ensure Muslim Rep. Ilhan Omar’s (D-Minn.) safety after President Trump tweeted an incendiary video.

It appears that Pelosi has finally taken a stand against Trump’s explosively dangerous, anti-Muslim rhetoric and requested that Capitol Police take extra precautions to protect House Rep. Ilhan Omar.

“Following the President’s tweet, I spoke with the Sergeant-at-Arms to ensure that Capitol Police are conducting a security assessment to safeguard Congresswoman Omar, her family and her staff,” Pelosi said in a statement. “They will continue to monitor and address the threats she faces.”

She also called for the president to take down the tweet.

On Sunday, Pelosi said: “The President’s words weigh a ton, and his hateful and inflammatory rhetoric creates real danger. President Trump must take down his disrespectful and dangerous video.”

President Trump’s video featured a short clip of Omar saying the words “some people did something” in reference to 9/11. Between repeats of the phrase, the video also edited in shots of the Pentagon in flames and the collapse of the twin towers of The World Trade Center. He, then, captioned the video “WE WILL NEVER FORGET.”

The tweet was originally pinned tweet originally but later it appeared that he unpinned it without removing it.

Omar has been accused of minimizing the devastation that 9/11 caused to this country and has faced overwhelming criticism along with anti-Muslim attacks for her outspoken views with relation to Israel as well as the mistreatment of Muslims in this country and abroad.

Although President Trump denies having any ill will towards Omar, the fact that he shared such a hostile video with edits, which appear to provoke his MAGA fans, says otherwise.

Even former Texas Rep. Beto O’Rourke, a 2020 presidential candidate, called Trump’s tweet an “incitement to violence.”

Of course, White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders denied the accusation, saying in response to the criticism of the president’s tweet, “The president is not trying to incite violence against anybody. He’s actually speaking out against it.”

But House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is right to assume Rep. Ilhan Omar is in danger. The congresswoman has received numerous death threats.

In late March, a death threat was phoned in to Omar’s office. During the call, a man said to a staff member, “Do you work for the Muslim Brotherhood? Why are you working for her, she’s an (expletive) terrorist. I’ll put a bullet in her (expletive) skull.”

Patrick W. Carlineo, 55, of Addison, N.Y., was arrested on April 5 and faced criminal charges for threatening to assault and murder the representative. The FBI confirmed that he is a staunch Trump supporter and the hateful man even admitted to having two firearms in his home.
