Georgia Takes Hit from Looming Abortion Law: Tiffany Haddish Cancels Atlanta Performance

Tiffany Haddish dealt one of the first blows against the state of Georgia because of the recently passed draconian abortion ban.

The actress and comedian canceled her upcoming Atlanta performance because of the law, according to the Associated Press. Her show was supposed to be on June 22 at the Fox Theatre.

The “Girls Trip” actress sent a statement to ticketholders Saturday saying she can’t “in good faith” perform in Georgia unless it withdraws the so-called “heartbeat bill”.

The bill, if it’s not blocked in court, is set to go into effect in 2020. The ACLU has already said the group will mount a legal challenge.

Haddish is not the only star in the entertainment industry that wants to boycott Georgia’s booming film industry.

Despite Georgia Democratic politician Stacey Abrams asking Hollywood to #StayAndFight in the state against the recent passing of the draconian abortion ban, Director Spike Lee called for Hollywood production companies to leave Georgia.

Georgia’s economy currently gets a $9.5 billion annual boost from the industry, according to the Associated Press.

Georgia Republican Gov. Brian Kemp signed a “fetal heartbeat” bill in May that would effectively sentence women to life imprisonment and the death penalty if they chose to have an illegal abortion after six weeks.

Most women don’t know at six weeks that they are even pregnant. The measure, HB 481,  even chases women who leave the state to get abortions. Conspiracy to commit murder charges, carrying a 10-year sentence, gets slapped on them and anyone that helps them go out of state to get an abortion.
