Five are dead and at least four others are injured after a shooter opened fire at an off-campus college Halloween party Thursday night in Orinda, Calif.
The Orinda Police Department and Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the shooting. A suspect has yet to be named.
The incident occurred around 11 p.m. Thursday. Witnesses who spoke to NBC Bay Area said the attendees were students from Laney College in Oakland. The house that the party was in reportedly was an Airbnb rental.
Police have yet to confirm witness statements, but a 911 dispatch report includes an initial person calling the police saying they heard what they thought were gunshots or firecrackers. The caller said dozens of people were running outside the house. A second person who called said they saw a person with a gun. Police said there were about 100 people at the party.

The Contra Costa County Police Department issued a press release around 1:30 p.m. Friday saying three of the victims were pronounced dead at the scene while another died in the hospital. A fifth victim was announced Friday evening. Police said the number of injured victims is unknown because some transported themselves to the hospital.
Police identified those killed as Tiyon Farley, 22; Omar Taylor, 24; Ramon Hill Jr., 23; Javin County, 29; and Oshiana Tompkins, 19.
The number of mass shootings this year has far surpassed the number of days. According to the Gun Violence Archive, there have been 15 mass shootings since Oct. 26.
