On a Fox News broadcast, David Bossie, a former Trump aide, bashed the language CIA Director Michael Hayden used in comparing the Trump administration to Nazi regime. But then he used language that was a nod back to the days of slavery in the U.S. when talking to a Black Democratic strategist.
Bossie, a Fox News contributor and current president of Citizens United, said: “There’s no place for it. You’re demeaning what happened in World War II, to the world, and to the Jewish people. The Holocaust was real. And these people have lost their ever-picking minds.”
Joel Payne, a Black Democratic strategist, was a panelist on the program as well, calling attention to many examples of right-wing hate. Bossie interrupted with claims of racism against conservatives. Then Bossie retorted to Payne’s comments about conservative rhetoric looking like Charlottesville by saying, “You’re out of your cotton-picking mind!”
While Bossie was upset about comparisons to Nazi’s, use of racist language — and claims of racism against conservatives and oppression of white people — has a historical and present-day Nazi connection.
Studies and literature, such as “Hitler’s American Model: The United States and the Making of Nazi Race Law” (Princeton), show Nazis were inspired by American racism.
And today Jason Kessler and Richard Spencer, two white supremacists with anti-Semitic connections, are planning a rally across from the White House and in Charlottesville in August to discuss discrimination against white people.
The Fox host, Ed Henry, abruptly cut the men off after the exchange and ended the segment. He didn’t apologize, but later said on camera about Bossie’s comments that Fox “didn’t agree with that particular phrase” and that it was “obviously offensive.”
Bossie later tweeted an apology: “During a heated segment on Fox & Friends today, I should have chosen my words more carefully and never used the offensive phrase that I did. I apologize to Joel Payne, Fox News and its viewers.”
