The white social studies teacher in New York City Public Schools, Patricia Cummings, fired after stepping on the backs of three Black students’ during a “lesson” on slavery, claims that she is the victim of reverse racism and plans to sue the State of New York for an astounding $120 million.
In February of this year, Cummings singled out Black students in her classes and made them lie on the floor in order to demonstrate the effects of being a slave. Stepping on their backs, according to her, was so they could know what slavery “feels” like. The “lesson” sparked justified outrage from parents of students at P.S. 118 and throughout New York. She was, subsequently, terminated.
As if it wasn’t insulting enough that she put her foot on a child’s back for a lesson, the former “teacher’ has filed a notice of claim with anticipation of a lawsuit this week, arguing she is owed $120 million in damages because she was the victim of reverse discrimination, defamation and negligence.
The damn nerve of this clown.
Apparently, some attorneys in the state don’t have enough to do. Attorney Tom Lotti took on the frivolous lawsuit stating, “It’s a scandal. There is blatant racism and reverse discrimination in the public schools of New York City. This is why white parents do not want to send their children there.”
“It’s no longer the Blacks and minorities who are being discriminated against,” he continued. “It is discrimination against white teachers who are making great sacrifices to be there.”
Yes, he actually used the phrase ‘the Blacks’ in 2018 and talked about the great sacrifices of white teachers who teach to minority children. Because clearly inner-city students are lacking white saviors and not proper education and resources.
Department of Education spokesperson Doug Cohen told The NY Daily News its determination to terminate Cummings was based on her use of poor judgement in the classroom.
“We’ve begun the process of firing Ms. Cummings based on an investigation of this unacceptable behavior and her performance as an educator,” Cohen said.
He also said the lawsuit was baseless but would be reviewed.
