Ed Buck Finally Facing Federal Charges After Second Overdose Death In His Home

Ed Buck, a wealthy and well-connected Democratic donor, is facing federal charges for killing a man with an overdose of meth. At least two have died in overdoses since 2017 but he is just now facing consequences. Along with federal charges, 10 of Buck’s victims filed a criminal complaint against him.

The stories are horrific: one man said he woke to Buck injecting him with a syringe and applying metal clamps to his body. Another man said Buck pulled out a power saw as he lay immobilized by drugs. Even more told law enforcement that Buck pressured them to take drugs while wearing tight underwear.

Buck was finally charged on Thursday after two men, Timothy Dean and Gemmel Moore, died of drug overdoses in his West Hollywood apartment between 2017 and 2019. He was arrested and has been accused of preying on Black men “made vulnerable by addiction and homelessness” for sex, the Washington Post reported.

Activists say that it has taken authorities so long to charge the wealthy donor because he is rich and white. On top of the federal charges, 10 victims came forward and filed a criminal complaint against him.

In a wrongful-death suit filed against Buck and the district attorney, Moore’s mother, LaTisha Nixon, claimed that Buck targets black men, intoxicating them so that he can force them into sex. Nixon also writes that authorities let him off because he well-connected and white. Nixon, told investigators that Moore said, “Buck held [him] against his will and shot him up with drugs.” People who knew Moore also told law enforcement that Buck paid Moore and gave him narcotics in exchange for sex.

If convicted of the federal charge, he could receive a sentence of life without parole. The crime carries a mandatory minimum of 20 years.

“If the dead body of a blond-haired, blue-eyed white man was found in the home of an older black man, he’d be lucky to even make it to the police station alive,” the Los Angeles Times reported an attorney for Nixon saying.

Buck is a former fashion model and activist who has donated thousands of dollars to Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton.
