Dwyane Wade Defends Son Against Social Media Haters Critical of Shirt, Nails

Former basketball star Dwyane Wade had to defend his son, Zion, again on social media against haters who criticized Zion’s shirt and nails.

Actress Gabrielle Union, Wade’s wife, posted a photo on Instagram of the family in their home together on Thanksgiving Day. In the photo, Zion, Wade’s son from a previous marriage, is wearing what appears to be a black crop top and has long acrylic nails.

Social media users started criticizing Zion’s fashion and parents. Wade was quick to respond.

“I’ve seen some post-thanksgiving hate on social about my family photo. Stupidity is apart of this world we live in—so i get it. But here’s the thing—I’ve been chosen to lead my family not y’all. So we will continue to be us and support each other with pride, love & a smile!” he said on Twitter.

This is not the first time Wade has had to defend Zion against internet trolls. In June, Wade shared photos of the family at Miami Beach Pride Parade on his Instagram story.

“We support each other with Pride!” Wade wrote on a photo of Zion and Union.

It attracted both negative and positive reactions. In response to the negativity, Wade told Variety in an interview that defending and supporting his son is the most important thing.

“I don’t really talk about it much because it’s Zion’s story to tell,” Wade said in the interview. “I think as a family, we should support each other. That’s our job. And my job as a father is to facilitate their lives and to support them and be behind them in whatever they want to do. This is my job as a father. They are all different, and I have to get to know them and where they are. I have to say to most parents, get to know your kids. Don’t put your wants and needs on them.”
