A Chicago-area cop resigned amid allegations and video footage of him turning a blind eye to a Puerto Rican woman being harassed and accosted by drunk, racist Timothy Trybus.
In a now-viral video, 24-year-old Mia Irizarry was hostilely questioned and hassled about her citizenship by the drunken dimwit who said she “shouldn’t be wearing that” — referencing a t-shirt that read Puerto Rico and displayed the flag.
“You’re not going to change us,” 62-year-old Timothy Trybus said in the video.
“The world is not going to change the United States of America. You should not be wearing that in the United States of America.”
Puerto Rico has been a United States Territory since 1899.
The video then shows Irizarry ask Patrick O’Connor, a 10-year veteran on the Cook County Forest Preserves police squad, who was standing nearby for assistance. Video footage showed him walking away. He was, subsequently, placed on desk duty. And this wasn’t the first time that he had been disciplined.
At a press conference on Tuesday, Deputy General Superintendent Eileen Figel said that the department launched an investigation into Forest Preserve Officer Patrick O’Connor’s lack of action.
“We have apologized personally to Miss Irizarry, refunded her money, and we continue to offer our sincerest apologies for her experience,” Figel said.The officer should have stepped in,” Cook County Forest Preserves Chief of Police Kelvin Pope said. “We are taking steps to ensure that our officers do everything they can to protect the safety of our patrons who come to enjoy our forest preserves.”
More officers eventually arrived on the scene and arrested Trybus after O’Connor finally called for backup. Trybus is now facing charges of assault and disorderly conduct. This isn’t his first arrest for being drunk and unruly. The arriving officers acknowledged that he was drunk.
