Archived: Sheriff Who Called BLM Terrorists to Take Homeland Security Job

Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke revealed Wednesday that he has officially hopped on the Trump train but officials say the announcement may have been premature.

Clarke told a Milwaukee radio station he will be taking a senior position with the Department of Homeland Security.

“I’m both honored and humbled to be appointed to this position,” Clarke said.

The announcement may have been premature, however, DHS implied on Twitter.

DHS Assistant Secretary for Intergovernmental Affairs Phil McNamara, who Clarke will be succeeding, questioned his replacement’s capabilities on Twitter.

Clarke traveled to Russia in 2015, along with leaders from the National Rifle Association, to meet with Russian leaders. The trip was reportedly funded in part by a Russian gun rights group.

Clarke will reportedly start his new position in June, a spokesman for the sheriff told The Washington Post.

“Basically he’ll be the liaison between DHS and different types of law enforcement,” saidspokesman Craig Peterson.

Clarke is no stranger to controversy. Most recently Clarke has made headlines because one of his Milwaukee County prisons is at the center of an investigation involving the death of a mentally ill Black man.

Terrill Thomas, 38, was found unresponsive in Milwaukee County Jail last April after seven days without water. His death was ruled a homicide. A jury recommended criminal charges be filed against seven of the jail’s staff members, but Clarke was not among them.

Clarke is also known for his comments on Black Lives Matter, which he has linked to ISIS and described as a terrorism movement.

In his memoir Clarke says BLM does not “care about black lives. They care about their own radical ideology of terrorism: anarchy.”

“In the five days surrounding the Dallas shooting which was the worst police massacre since 9/11, by the way there was even more Black LIES Matter-inspired violence (four attacks on police are listed).Let me guess. You’d never heard of these incidents. That’s because the media protect and lie about thisinsidious terror organization,” he also wrote.

In 2015 he tweeted that BLM will inevitably “join forces with ISIS.”

And he wrote a 2016 blog post featured on The Hill called “This is a war, and Black Lives Matter is the enemy.” Excerpts from his post include:

“We as a people need to declare that we stand with rule of law, and not with the false tales of the revolutionary Marxist forces, who most recently have rebranded themselves from Occupy Wall Street to Black Lives Matter.”

“Black Lives Matter organizers hold the same values of America’s age-old enemies, who have always fought the ideals of our Constitution and our nation. That they have now taken on as their costume a false concern for Black America only adds to their depravity.”

“We have several forces internal and external attacking our rule of law: ISIS, Black Lives Matter, Occupy Wall Street just the most recent iterations of the elements who brand themselves as unique but seek the same revolutionary aim: take down the West, the philosophy of equality before the law, and replace it with their authority, their rules, their hate.”

Earlier this year, Clarke called for the imprisonment of mayor of sanctuary cities.

“I’m telling you right now folks: You charge one mayor, one governor, one council president this stuff is going to end right away,” he said at the Conservative Political Action Conference.

Around the same time, he also took to Facebook to perpetuate Trump’s false narrative that immigrants are more likely than native-born citizens to be criminals.

“It is time for this pro-illegal immigration group to embrace the rule of law in this country as it relates to immigration,” he posted. “Criminal illegal aliens make Milwaukee County a dangerous place to live, work andplay.”

A2015study by the American Immigration Council found that not only are immigrants less likely to commit serious crimes or be incarcerated than native-born residents, but high rates of immigration correlate with even lower rates of violent and property crimes.

As summed up by The Root, “Clarke skyrocketed to fame as the black dude Fox News calls whenever it wants to denigrate a black person who is killed by the police.”

On one appearance on “Fox & Friends” he referred to BLM members as “sub-human creeps.”

During the 2015 segment Clarke said, “There is no police brutality in America we ended that in the ’60s.”

Speaking about BLM and anti-police protesters, Clarke suggested the protesters should “fend for themselves” and officers should stop protecting them during demonstrations so people in the community and business owners “could clash with them for disrupting their lives.” He continued, “Then the police can show up andarrest these sub-human creepsfor creating a disturbance. That we can do.”
