Comcast: 'Meet the Press' Wins 2nd Straight Quarter Across the Board

‘Meet the Press with Chuck Todd’ (MTP) wins the second quarter of 2018 (Q2’18) across the board, according to Nielsen Media Research data, marking its second straight quarter as the No. 1 most-watched Sunday show.


With an average of 3.164 million viewers for the quarter, MTP is the only Sunday show to deliver more than three million total viewers, beating ABC’s “This Week” by +12 percent (+328,000) and CBS’ “Face the Nation” by six percent (+178,000). Compared to the same quarter last year, MTP has improved its advantages over CBS by +349,000 total viewers and ABC by +15,000 total viewers its best advantages over CBS in seven years and over ABC in three years.

The network broadcast continues its dominance with the audience most valued by news advertisers, winning in the key A25-54 demo for the 10th consecutive quarter. MTP topped its competition by double-digits with a delivery of 833,000 viewers: +94,000 (+13 percent) more than ABC and +199,000 (+31 percent) more than CBS. This marks MTP’s best key demo streak in five years and its biggest second quarter advantage over CBS in nine years (since 2Q’09).

For the month of June, MTP is the most-watched Sunday show across the board, winning its seventh straight month across the board at #1 its best streak in more than 6 years (since Sep 2011).

An average of 2.921 million total viewers tuned into the broadcast in June, beating ABC by +13 percent (+325,000) and CBS by four percent (+100,000). This is the 13th straight month MTP has beat ABC and seventh straight month its beat CBS in total viewers. The broadcast posts its biggest June advantages over ABC and CBS in seven years (since June 2011).

June marked nine consecutive months of MTP winning in the key demo audience, as the broadcast delivered an average of 739,000 A25-54 viewers: +14 percent (+92,000) more than ABC and +33 percent (+183,000) more than CBS. MTP grew its key demo advantage over ABC by +21 percent (+16,000) in just one month (from May to June).

SUNDAY, JULY 1, 2018

Sunday’s broadcast featured an exclusive interview with Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), who reacted to exclusive NBC News reporting that North Korea has increased nuclear production at secret sites, telling moderator Chuck Todd, “Nobody should be surprised. It’s now a time to bring their program to an end one way or the other.” The broadcast also featured exclusive interviews with Sen. Maria Cantwell (D-Wash.) and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the new Democratic nominee for New York’s 14th congressional district.

MTP was the #1 most-watched Sunday show across the board for the fourth straight week. Delivering an average of 2.850 million total viewers and 718,000 A25-54 demo viewers, MTP beat ABC by double-digits across the board: +22 percent (+506,000) more total viewers and +36 percent (+189,000) more demo viewers. An additional 891,000 total viewers and 177,000 A25-54 viewers watched Sunday’s program through rebroadcasts on NBC and MSNBC.

MTP continued its dominance in the influential Washington market outperforming its competition across the board and winning every Sunday with total viewers for more than three straight years (since March 22, 2015).
