The Cigna Foundation announced on March 2 an open call for applications for its new Health and Well-Being grant program, part of an ongoing initiative to improve access to care and eliminate health disparities.

In 2021, the Cigna Foundation plans to award over $3 million in grants to support non-profits and community organizations focused on addressing these challenges.

“Our goal is to provide non-profits with resources that support the improved health and well-being of vulnerable communities, allowing them to better increase access to health care and primary care, while also helping to create effective health literacy resources,” said Susan Stith, executive director, Cigna Foundation.

Despite steady improvement in overall health outcomes over the past decade, many under-resourced communities continue to experience substantial health inequities.  For instance, research shows that low-income individuals experience more barriers to care and receive poorer quality care than high-income individuals.1

2021 Grant Cycle

Non-profit organizations are invited to apply for grants beginning March 22. The grant cycle will close on April 23. Additional opportunities to apply for this grant program will be available throughout the year. Grants will be awarded this July.

Qualified non-profits must specifically address health and well-being with programs that focus on health navigation to improve overall access to care, treatment and medications.
