It’s Valentine’s Day season, and love and chocolate are in the air here at Hershey. Our dedicated manufacturing team has made nearly one billion individual Hershey’s Kissesfor Valentine’s Day 2018. Most of those Kisses are made at our West Hershey Plant in Hershey, Pa., where Kay and Rob Wagner work. In fact, the couple met at one of Hershey’s manufacturing facilities 22 years ago.

It was new employee orientation and Rob spotted Kay at the front of the room. You could say he was “smitten” at first sight. He went home that day and gushed to his mom about Kay. His parents both worked at Hershey when he was growing up, so finding love at work made complete sense to him. Kay and Rob ended up working side-by-side and becoming friends. Work brought them together; they were married six months later and the rest is history!

Hear the story straight from Rob & Kay in this interview with CBS Sunday Morning:

Hershey’s Kisses have been part of the company product portfolio for many, many years.During the 19th century, KISS was a common name for a variety of bite-size confectionery products. Our founder,Milton Hershey, was the first to use the term for a bite-size piece of milk chocolate and registered the name Hershey’s Kisses as a trademark in 1923.A year later in 1924, Hershey received a trademark for the KISS with its “foil wrapped conical configuration with plume” or what we know today as Hershey’s Kisses!

Kisses and love have long been linked, and we’re proud that the franchise has continued to grow during the Valentine’s Day holiday. In fact, last year, retailsales of the Hershey’s Kisses franchise were up nearly 7% during Valentine’s 2017. (Source: Nielsen, Valentine’s CMG, XAOC+C 2017).
