The son of a politically engaged steelworker from Youngstown, Ohio, Bruce Murphy learned from a young age that community involvement goes a long way, he told Fair360, formerly DiversityInc. Like his father, who was a union president, Murphy saw the value in listening to the needs of the community.
As President of Community Development Banking, Murphy was instrumental in the creation of KeyBank Plus, a program of services and free financial education geared toward members of low-income groups who may not be familiar with traditional banking. Head of Corporate Responsibility since 2013, Murphy oversees the bank’s community-development lending, workplace diversity, supplier diversity and environmental sustainability.
