As CEO, Brian Cornell leads Target’s global business, web site, 1,800 North American retail stores and more than 360,000 employees. He is chairman of the board.

Before joining Target in 2014, Cornell was chief executive officer of PepsiCo’s global food business with responsibility for products including Frito-Lay and Quaker Foods. Cornell has also served as president and CEO of Sam’s Club, a division of WalMart Stores; CEO of Michaels Stores, Inc.; and executive vice president and chief marketing officer for Safeway.

He earned a bachelor’s degree from UCLA and attended the Anderson School of Management, where he now sits on the Board of Visitors. Cornell is a member of numerous other boards including the board of directors for Polaris Industries Inc.; the Retail Industry Leaders Association (RILA); and the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture.
