Boston’s ‘Straight Pride’ Parade Organizers Name Milo Yiannopoulos as Grand Marshal

Organizers of Boston’s “Straight Pride” parade announced Friday that Milo Yiannopoulos, an alt-right provocateur and former Breitbart News editor who hosted a ”Gays for Trump” party in 2016, as the grand marshal.

“I might technically be a sequined and perfectly coiffed friend of Dorothy’s, but I’ve spent my entire career advocating for the rights of America’s most brutally repressed identity—straight people—so I know a thing or two about discrimination,” Yiannopoulos, who is openly gay, said, in a statement released by the group.

“This parade is a gift to anyone, male or female, Black or white—gay and transgender allies, too —who will stand with us and celebrate the wonder and the majesty of God’s own heterosexuality. Men, bring your most toxic selves. Women, prepare to burn your briefcases! Because it’s great to be straight, and we’re not apologizing for it anymore. We’re Here, Not Queer.”

“I know it’s a little ironic to have a gay conservative as our icon,” John Hugo, one of the organizers, told the Boston Herald.

The parade has a tentative date of Aug. 31 but appears to have not yet received a required city permit.

Mark Sahady, who is part of the group Resist Marxism, proudly declared on social media that he is helping to organize the “Straight Pride” parade.

If this name sounds familiar, this is the same guy who organized the controversial free speech parade in November 2017 that polluted the Boston Commons.

Actually, he is working with the very same group who help execute the free speech event. On their website, Resist Marxism explains themselves as, “A patriotic organization dedicated to American nationalism and combating efforts to undermine our freedoms and national sovereignty.”

But they are a group that holds racist, anti-LGBTQ, anti-Semitic and misogynist views.

“Resist Marxism’s Boston chapter is steeped in the same sort of racist, anti-Semitic rhetoric as groups on the far-right fringes,” according to internal communications and social media information obtained by ThinkProgress. “And that rhetoric, in turn, can easily drive new members and recruits from the libertarianism and conservatism.”

The group is attempting to put on an anti-gay parade as the nation commemorates the 50-year anniversary of The Stonewall Inn uprising in New York City. The 2019 New York City LGBT Pride March will take place on June 30.
