‘Born Alive’ Anti-Abortion Bill in North Carolina Blocked

A victory for pro-choice advocates. North Carolina bill “Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act” has been blocked.

The Republican-led House failed to override a veto by Governor Roy Cooper. The bill, if passed, would have determined any baby born during an abortion as a legal person, therefore it would have the rights under the law of North Carolina.

According to the text of the proposed bill, “Any infant born alive after an abortion or within a hospital, clinic, or other facility has the same claim to the protection of the law that would arise for any newborn, or for any person who comes to a hospital, clinic, or other facility for screening and treatment or otherwise becomes a patient within its care.”

The bill also requires healthcare professionals to provide the same care to ensure that baby lives as they would in any other case.

Under this bill, the mother would not be subject to charges if the infant fails to survive. With that being said, any attempt to overtly end the child’s life.

For the first time in 23 years, Americans who vote based on their stance on abortion has reached 30 percent. This is according to a poll conducted by CNN. Interestingly enough gender plays more of a factor in whether one is pro-life or pro-choice.

Thirty-three percent of woman think abortion is a critical issue where just one in four men are concerned.

As people get closer to either extreme of the debate the more loyal they become to candidates who share their opinion on abortion. Forty-two percent of pro-choice voters say abortion should be legal in all circumstances, and 37 percent of pro-life voters want all abortions to be illegal.
