Permit Patty, the name social media labeled Alison Ettel, a white woman who called the cops on a Black child last month in San Francisco because she was “illegally selling water without a permit,” apparently has a copycat in the same city.
A video of another white woman on permit patrol posted on Facebook Wednesday by Derrick Perryman has gone viral with more than half a million views.
Perryman filmed the woman on her cellphone ready to report to authorities a woman of color selling items on the sidewalk outside of a train station.
The woman sees Perryman recording, and starts to wave at him.
“Hi!” Perryman says.
He refers to her as “Permit Betty.”
“We have another Permit Betty here. Let’s get her viral also.”
“Sorry guys, I have to ask for permits,” the woman says.
“Yep, she sure does,” he responds. “She’s gotta mess with people who are just trying to make a living.”
The woman comments that people need “to be able to walk on the sidewalks.”
“Let’s let her go viral, ladies and gentleman,” Perryman says. “There she goes.”
She walks up to the camera, waves and says, “Hi everybody.”
Perryman then refers to her as the popular “Permit Patty.”
“Permit Patty, let’s figure out what company she’s with,” he says.
The woman then gives a look of frustration and begins to walk away in the opposite direction down the street.
“Where’s she going” Perryman says.
Recently, cellphone video has captured white women confronting people of color for existing.
For example, along with Permit Patty, there’s
BBQ Becky, who called the cops on Black people having a barbecue in Oakland; Pool Patrol Paula in South Carolina, who verbally attacked a group of Black teens — getting violent with one — who were simply trying to swim at a pool and threatened to call 911; and near Los Angeles, Darth Becky confronted a Latino man and his mother clearing a backyard, calling them “Mexican,” “rapists” and “animals.”
