Beyoncé Channels ‘Lion King’ At Wearable Art Gala, Makes Debut As Nala In Film’s New Trailer

Beyoncé Knowles-Carter fans are abuzz on social media reacting to the newly-released trailer for “The Lion King.”

Jon Favreau’s photo-real virtual-production remake of the classic film, to be released by Disney (No. 20 on the Fair360, formerly DiversityInc Top 50 Companies list) on July 19, stars actors including, Donald Glover, James Earl Jones, Eric André, Billy Eichner, John Oliver, Seth Rogen, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Alfre Woodard, and Beyoncé as Nala.

In the trailer released on Monday, Nala, the childhood friend of Simba, who’s voiced by Glover, says it’s time for him to take his rightful place as king of Pride Rock.

Twitter users are sharing how hearing the clip made them feel:

The film’s director explained why he thinks Beyoncé took the role in “The Lion King.”

“I think that part of it is that she’s got young kids, part of it is that it’s a story that feels good for this phase of her life and her career — it’s a very positive story, it’s a classic that a lot of people feel very emotionally invested in — and I think she just really likes the original very much,” Favreau told Entertainment Weekly.

“At the end of the day, she’s also an actor and it’s a great bunch of people to work with and a project that I think she felt was going to be special. And then, of course, there are these wonderful musical numbers that she can be involved with, and my God… she really lives up to her reputation as far as the beauty of her voice and her talent.”

Attending her mom, Tina Knowles Lawson’s, third annual Wearable Art Gala in Santa Monica over the weekend, Beyoncé wore a glamorous gown-jumpsuit inspired by her new role. She shared photos on Instagram.
