A good friend of mine sent me an interesting article two days after Election Day 2020 and asked me what I thought. I’ll warn you: If you’re white and have never read an analysis like this, prepare yourself. It’s tough love — from as early as the headline: “America’s Problem is That White People Want It to Be a Failed State.”

In my opinion, white (majority culture) people who study diversity and who are honest with themselves will understand that we are really fighting to save our society from itself. It’s an uncomfortable fact that, of any population, half will be less smart than average. Our country is mostly white people (non-Hispanic whites are 60.7%), which means we are saddled with 92 million white people of below-average intelligence. No judgment, it’s just the way it is, but the impact of all those people working together isn’t well understood because the majority culture of this country rejects the concept of “white culture.” But the chart below clearly illustrates it.

The books of historian and journalist Robert Caro convinced me that Lyndon B. Johnson was our greatest president, second only to Abraham Lincoln. LBJ summed it up like this: “If you can convince the lowest white man he’s better than the best colored man, he won’t notice you’re picking his pocket. Hell, give him somebody to look down on, and he’ll empty his pockets for you.” LBJ had the gift of lifting himself out of his own bigotry; it gave him amazing vision and insight.

Thanks to the legislation he masterfully negotiated to get passed (Voting Rights Act and Civil Rights Act) under the tutelage of racist House Speaker Sam Rayburn, the smarter upper half of white people across our entire nation (if a college education is an indication of intelligence) is praying for deliverance from another four years of the president who managed the pandemic to the extent that we are 4.2% of the world’s population and 20% of COVID-19-related deaths.

As of the morning of Nov. 5, the election is still undecided. What are we all waiting for? Who will choose the direction of our future?

It all depends on how Black people voted in Philadelphia.

Keep in mind that Black people don’t violate the law of averages. Half are not as bright as the other half. But Black culture, forged in the crucible of living for 400 years under a murderously hostile government has a much better understanding of the wages of selfishness, nihilism and the consequences of being bamboozled. If you question “murderously hostile,” reflect on just two facts: After over 200 years of white management, we are 4.2% of the world’s population and have 24% of the world’s prisoners, more than half not white. The Black maternal death rate is also three times that of white and Black infant mortality is almost double. So much for “pro-life.”

I’m comfortable with my fate being in the hands of my fellow (Black) citizens in Philadelphia. I am confident they did the right thing for our society on Tuesday and before through mail-in and early ballots. Whether enough of them did is what we will all find out shortly. I’m optimistic, but even if the numbers fall short, every single one of those Black votes is a testament to the human ability to overcome our basest instincts.
