As A Federal Contractor, Are You Prepared for Today’s Section 503 Rule Change

Kim Brussell

August 27, 2013 The National Business & Disability Council (NBDC) at The Viscardi Center, whose membership includes many federal contractors, is offering a 7% Boot Camp Webinar to its members at no charge, and to non-members for a modest fee, on Tuesday, September 3, 2013 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., to prepare them for the Section 503 rule change announced today by the Department of Labor’s Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP). The change requires that 7% of the workforce of federal contractors, employing 100 or more employees, be comprised of qualified individuals with disabilities.

“As a comprehensive resource for disability employment best practices, we are offering this webinar, as well as more in-depth programs, so that federal contractors have a better understanding of the Section 503 rule change, how it affects them and what they must do to maintain and exceed compliance,” said Laura M. Francis, Executive Director at the National Business & Disability Council at The Viscardi Center. “We believe everyone benefits from a diverse, inclusive workforce and that this change will infuse new, often untapped, talent at all corporate levels.”

Conducted by NBDC’s disability employment experts, the Boot Camp Webinar will:

  • Provide a concrete understanding of the new OFCCP Section 503 rule change;
  • Offer tools, such as the NBDC National Resume Database, that HR and Recruitment teams can utilize to recruit qualified individuals with disabilities;
  • Provide a Q&A forum to answer initial questions about the rule change.

To register for the 7% Boot Camp Webinar on Tuesday, September 3 at 11:00 a.m., email by Friday, August 30 or call NBDC Information Services at 516.465.1519. The Webinar is free for NBDC members and $99 for non-members.

“Beyond this introductory webinar, NBDC can address an organization’s particular needs as they relate to this rule change through customized on-site seminars and webinars that focus on key tactical points and also assist with developing solutions specific to the company,” added John D. Kemp, President & CEO of The Viscardi Center.

NBDC’s services are offered through tiered membership levels or on a consultant basis and assist businesses in developing strategies to implement, grow, measure and create solid disability programs. These include talent acquisition, advancement and retention strategies; customized training seminars and workshops; facility and IT accessibility surveys; and an information hotline for disability-related employment issues. Its initiatives to assist employers with expanding their recruiting of people with disabilities include Job Postings Services that aid in attracting qualified people with disabilities to their companies, the NBDC National Resume Database that provides access to resume listings 24/7 and the Emerging Leaders summer internship program for college students with disabilities.
