AOC on Trump’s ‘Young Bartender’ Dig: ‘There is Nothing Wrong with Being a Working Person’

… Says the working American Latina Congresswoman to the elitist, rich, white administration.

Trump tried to belittle Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) with a “young bartender” comment, but it only resulted in a dig at working-class people.

He remarked at an NRCC fundraising dinner on Tuesday: “The Green New Deal done by a young bartender, 29 years old. A young bartender, wonderful young woman, the Green New Deal. The first time I heard it I said, ‘That’s the craziest thing.’”

The comment attempted to signify some kind of inadequacy. Trump and the GOP have had no shortage of attacks toward the young, Latina congresswoman in that regard.

In Rep. Ocasio-Cortez’s speech at the National Action Network press conference, she brilliantly responded that there was “nothing wrong with being a working person in the United States of America,” and that it should encourage people about what can happen in this country:

The Working Class Vote Got Squat

Trump’s government shutdown over the border wall and subsequent empty promises of back pay for thousand of workers is proof of his disregard for working class people. And he has a history since his campaign of blowing smoke about tax cuts for the middle class. He’s eliminated overtime protections for middle class, attacked healthcare, education, social services— all to protect the tax cuts for the wealthy.

The voters who gave Trump his victory is 2016 are the white working class.

Trump’s margin among whites without a college degree, according to Pew Research, is the largest among any candidate in exit polls since 1980. Two-thirds (67%) of non-college whites backed him. And 58% white voters who earned $30-75k, voted for Trump.

AOC represents the working class that now walks the halls of Congress. She shows his voter that a pathway to power is possible.
